The first class school in Bulgaria renovated with Norwegian support

Last updated: 04.3.2011 г. // The renovated building of the first class school in Bulgaria, situated in the town of Koprivshtitsa, was inaugurated on 25 February 2011. The building is now turned into a living museum, where ethnographic and school exhibitions and animations take place.

The preservation of the Revival-style building and the setting up of a living museum was supported by Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein with a grant of more than 305 000 euro, provided under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area. Norway ensured 95% of the grant amount.

H.E. Tove Skarstein, Ambassador of Norway to Bulgaria, and Mr. Lyubomir Tsekov, Mayor of Koprivshtitsa, opened the inauguration ceremony and thanked all people and organisations involved in the implementation of the project. Mrs. Skarstein expressed her satisfaction with the fact, that the renovated building of the first class school in Bulgaria will continue to fulfill its initial function of a source of knowledge and donated a collection of books by classic and modern Norwegian authors translated into Bulgarian.

Many citizens of Koprivshtitsa gathered in the museum to see the expositions there. They were also able to watch a theatrical play inspired by the school life 150 years ago and dances of the group Koprivshtenski Bogorodichki.
