Financial grants for small-scale cultural projects

Last updated: 29.12.2011 г. // Each year the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sofia provides financial grants for small-scale projects. The projects’ main objective should be the promotion of Norwegian culture, social life, politics and science, as well as Norwegian lifestyle and Norwegian values among a wide Bulgarian audience.

The grants are intended for institutions, organizations or individuals who act as organizers of the event, either alone or together with others, or in exceptional cases in cooperation with the Embassy.

The award criteria are fixed in the scheme’s guidelines drawn up by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The project’s objectives should be in line with the scheme’s goals. All projects will be evaluated according to the Embassy’s annual priorities. The Embassy’s priorities for 2012 are:

·         Response to climate change

·         Women and literature

·         Contemporary art forms.

The Embassy will prioritize projects whose target group is children and youth.

The grant amount would rarely exceed BGN 1 500 and the Embassy does not provide full financing. The grant may be used to cover travel and accommodation costs for person(s) coming from Norway, PR-costs relating to the event etc. The grant does not cover administration and remuneration costs. Usually no grants are awarded to projects covered by ordinary support schemes (e.g. NORLA’s translation subsidy).

Potential beneficiaries may apply by using the application form which can be obtained from the Embassy upon request. The project’s budget should be set up in a way which makes it possible to evaluate the project’s costs and progress in accordance with the proposed budget and make sure that the grant is used as agreed in the grant agreement. The grant is disbursed in BGN and must be used during the current budget year.

Unused funding exceeding BGN 100 (NOK 400) must be transferred back to the Embassy’s bank account as soon as the event is over. The Embassy is entitled to requesting complete or partial repayment of the grant if the grant recipient does not act in accordance with the prerequisites for awarding the grant or the grounds for the application have ceased to apply. The Embassy has the right to control whether the grant is used and administered according to the rules.

All applications will be processed consecutively upon reception. The applicants will receive a message informing them about the expected processing time.

More information about the grant scheme, as well as application form and guidelines will be sent upon request to the Embassy (phone 00359/2 981 11 06, e-mail emb.sofia@mfa.no).
