The book “ABC in breastfeeding” by the Norwegian author and dr. med. Gry Nylander is now published in Bulgarian.  The launching of the book in Bulgarian took place in Varna on the 17th of March where both the Norwegian Ambassador Tove Skarstein and the promoter for translating the book into Bulgarian, Dr. Rouzha Pancheva pediatrician at “St. Marina” University Hospital of Varna, were present. The book is published by Slavena-Varna and is translated into Bulgarian by ms. Evgenia Zheljazkova.

The book deals with breastfeeding and the importance of breast milk for the child. In the book Dr. Nylanders draws on her considerable experience both as a breastfeeding expert and obstetrician at the Oslo University Hospital and as a researcher.

Breastfeeding is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as crucial for the healthy development of the child. It protects against illnesses such as allergies and asthma, and caters for a close relationship between mother and child from the very start. The rate of breastfeeding in Bulgaria is low because of lack of knowledge of the benefits of breastfeeding and because young mothers are not encouraged by their surroundings to breastfeed.

The book is meant to be guide to all new mothers, doctors and nurses as well as the young fathers.
