Norwegian Seafood

Last updated: 24.1.2012 г. // Norway is famous for its deep fjords, snow-covered mountains, cold waters – and the best seafood in the world! The expansive sea areas of the Norwegian coast are ideal for harvesting seafood. The waters here are very cold and as a result, seafood grows slowly and is extra tasty and juicy.

In 2010, Norway’s seafood exports were valued at NOK 53.8 billion. This makes seafood Norway’s third biggest export item after petroleum and metals.

Only China exports more seafood than Norway.

Norway’s fisheries and aquaculture industry has a significant ripple effect, accounting for almost as much value creation in other industries as in its own. Figures from research organisation SINTEF’s analysis from 2008 show that every krone produced by the seafood industry generates 95 øre in value in other industries. In 2008 there were 24,000 man-labour years in the fisheries and aquaculture industry, which generated 20,000 man-labour years in other industries.

In 2010, Norwegian seafood was exported to over 140 countries worldwide.

Ten biggest markets for Norwegian salmon in 2010 were: France, Russia , Poland , Denmark , U S A , Sweden  and Germany.
