22.10.2009 г. //

In accordance with the rules regarding funds from Memorial Fund of May 8, 1970 established by Stortinget in connection with the 25th anniversary for the liberation of May 8, 1945, we offer a scholarship to foreign youth that want to study at a Folkehøgskole in Norway.

You can find a form for application on the Internet, or by contacting the Memorial Fund by mail (see address below).

The deadline for application is November 1 for the school year of 2010-2011.

The school year of 2010-2011 is the last year you can apply for a scholarship from the Memorial Fund. After this the Fund will be closed down.

As an applicant you have to fulfil certain criteria:

  • You have to be born in the time span of 1988-1992.
  • You have to send a new photo with your application and you can only apply on the form of the Memorial Fund (or a photo copy).
  • The applicant can not be a holder of a Norwegian passport or have permanent residence in Norway.
  • The dead line for application must be respected.
  • You must accept that you will have to return to your country of residence after the year in Norway.

The board of the Memorial Fund is free to give as many applicants as they want a scholarship and to decide which countries and how many from which countries will get funding. Due to the closing of the Memorial Fund this year it will be approximately 20 scholarships available.

Education, work experience, language skills in Norwegian and/or English, participation in social, cultural and humanitarian activities will be of importance in the process of selection. As well as memberships in organization, hobbies, motivation, references and possible connection to Norway.

Due to other available scholarship funds, applicants from the Nordic countries will not have a high priority by the Memorial Fund, but the will not be excluded from applying.

All applicants will receive written information on the final decision.

Scholarship for 2010-2011:

Main scholarship:

Living expenses: NOK 23 200

Trips etc.:            NOK 5 300

Extra scholarship:

Studying at a Norwegian Folkehøgskole is free.

Candidates can apply for extra money for living expenses. This scholarship will be granted according to need. Usually candidates from countries outside of Western Europe and North America will be the priority.

The extra scholarship is NOK 6 800.

The applicants can also apply for having part of the costs for their return trip covered by the Memorial Fund. Candidates will have to apply for the extra scholarships at the same time as the main scholarship.

To make possible individual travels in Norway, the candidates can apply for a travel scholarship for no more than NOK 1 500. This money will not be paid in advance and have to be approved by the school.

These are the sums the schools will get from the memorial Fund. Additional living expenses will be covered by the school. Several schools now have trips abroad on their programs for the year. These trips can come to be rather expensive. The Memorial Fund has decided it will rather spend the money on as many scholarships possible and has put a limit on NOK 5 300 for these kind of trips. The candidate and the school must therefore come to an agreement on how to solve situations with travelling abroad.

More information in both Norwegian and English can be found on the web page of the Folkehøgskoler.
